Ortisei in South Tyrol is the main town of the Val Gardena. The Val Gardena Valley is about 30 km long and is located in the nord-western part of the South Tyrolean Dolomites. Three townships belong to Val Gardena: Ortisei South Tyrol, S. Cristina South Tyrol and Selva South Tyrol. All of them are famous holiday destinations.

The altitude of 1,236 m above sea level makes of Ortisei the ideal place for winter and summer holidays. This town, with its old and solid mercantile tradition and rich history, has a particular urban plan that blends harmoniously with the landscape. The centre and its pedestrian only area are a wonderful meeting place but are also ideal for shopping. From here one may easily wander off into the woods in search of some old farm. The Seceda, Rasciesa and the Alpe di Siusi can be reached by comfortable lifts.

The whole town of Ortisei Val Gardena offers sunny fields and a nice view to the Langkofel/Sassolungo the main symbol of the Val Gardena.

The oldest tradition in Ortisei South Tyrol is the wood carving. Centuries ago, men passed the long winter months with carving toys and other little souvenirs for markets in the area. In the last century it has become an art craft exported all over the world.
